Selina Shirley (daughter of the 2nd Earl Ferrers) married Theophilus Hastings, the 9th Earl of Huntingdon in 1728.

She was a wealthy, influential Methodist leader and in 1768 she created a training college for ministers in Trevecca, Wales.

She founded 64 evangelical chapels in England and Wales to further Calvanistic religious revival.
