Renovation work uncovered some surprising artefacts and mysteries.
This letter in French was found tucked into an attic doorframe. It appears to be a criticism of prison conditions in the attic (which does have a chain on the outside of the door).
Most likely it dates from the Napoleonic Wars (1803-05) when about 100 French prisoners were billeted in Thame.
