The family branch of the Striblehills in Priest End were yeoman farmers who supported Henry VIII and benefitted from the dissolution of the monasteries in the 1530s.
By 1533 they had become churchwardens, an important role at the time, and a Striblehill retained this role for more than 200 years. They obtained additional land in 1606 from the Prebendal, reflecting their upward status as gentleman farmers.

When the house was rebuilt in the 1640s, it was owned by Iones (John the Elder) Striblehill, who was married to Joane. Their son, John, became a wealthy attorney and you can see his memorial in St. Mary’s Church (see panel). When he died the house went out of the family.
