In 2013 The Thame Neighbourhood Plan allocated various areas around the town for potential development. It gave each area a letter, and christened the land that became Thame Meadows “Site F”.

In time, the phrase “Site F” would conjure up the promise of great insights to archaeologist and academics, sometimes spoken of in hushed tones.

Bloor Homes bought the site and put in a planning application for around 200 houses.

The planning authorities called for an evaluation, knowing there might be archaeology on the site, not just because of the badger. Extensive archaeology had been found in 2010, on the site of the new Football Ground, now Meadow View Park.

The planning authorities, through the County Archaeologist, called for an evaluation of Site F, which meant digging a series of trenches across the site to sample what might lie below.

John Moore Heritage Services undertook the evaluation and found archaeology pretty much everywhere they looked on Site F. The County Archaeologist then called for a full excavation of the site.
